Are you over 50 and eager for birding and natural history adventures? Are you tired of driving through Houston traffic to reach a birding destination? We have the solution! We offer monthly senior bus trips with buses provided as a service by Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey. Houston Audubon books a bus every month for adults age 50 and up. We provide snacks, refreshments and an experienced tour guide at our destination.
Reservations are required and attendance is limited due to bus capacity. A small fee is charged by Houston Audubon to cover costs for refreshments and entry fees. Participants will be required to sign Precinct 3 and Houston Audubon liability release forms for the trip. Precinct 3 regulations require that all participants must be 50 years or older.
Senior bus trips depart from Memorial City Mall. You will receive directions and times when you register. Bring your lunch in a soft-sided container and we will provide snacks, cold water, and an ice chest for your drinks. Note that there is no restroom on the county buses, however we do make bathroom stops. Remember to bring your binoculars, insect protection, sturdy shoes, and rain gear if necessary.
Houston Audubon is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that operates on program fees and donations. If you have to cancel your trip for whatever reason, we will consider your fee (usually $15 per person) a donation. In order to receive a refund for your bus trip fee, you must cancel 48 hours in advance of the trip by emailing Jesi Malowitz (email below) directly and let us know you require the refund. That will allow time for members on the waitlist to join.

Tuesday, September 8, 2026: Mercer Botanic Gardens
Join us for a relaxing outing to Mercer Botanic Gardens, a 393-acre natural sanctuary along the Cypress Creek corridor. Known as a premier local birding hotspot and a regular site for Houston Audubon surveys, Mercer offers a rich blend of native woodlands and cultivated gardens. Our group will explore flat, well-maintained trails while watching for year-round resident species and seasonal migrants. The park features paved paths, shade, and frequent bench seating, making it comfortable and accessible for all mobility levels. We will visit both the vibrant botanical exhibits on the east side and the quiet, shaded arboretum trails on the west. Meeting Time: 7:30 am.
